Projects
Since 2012, the Docuart Association has been creating spaces where documentary film, art and cultural heritage reach the public: festivals, touring cinema, film schools, workshops and field research. Below are all our projects, each with its own website.
Projects
Caravana Docuart
A touring programme of Romanian documentary cinema, taken both to major cultural centres and to towns where such screenings are rare or absent altogether. Over 12 editions, the Caravan has reached more than 40 towns in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with over 500 free screenings, around 35,000 viewers, Q&A sessions, masterclasses and documentary photography exhibitions.
Academia Docuart
Docuart’s documentary film school in Bucharest, open to everyone who loves the genre. Alongside the core course, the Academy runs special courses in film history, portraiture, the aesthetics and philosophy of the photographic image, and Photodoc.
Bucharest Docuart Fest
The Romanian documentary film festival, held in Bucharest since 2012, with editions in Cluj as well. Beyond the film competition, the festival has hosted masterclasses, debates, workshops and exhibitions.
Bucharest Art Film Festival
A festival of films on (and as) art, presenting the best documentaries from around the world about artists, collectors and their work. Free screenings have taken place in venues such as Mogoșoaia Palace.
Brâncuși Nocturn
An open-air film festival dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși: screenings, debates and performative moments in Bucharest and Târgu Jiu, including the Endless Column Park. Admission is free.
Special projects
Lemnul, pânza și vorba (Wood, Cloth and Word)
A project about craft, memory and identity that rediscovers the living cultural heritage of Gorj County. Through field research, workshops, short documentaries and a multidisciplinary exhibition, it brings together craftspeople, artists and local communities. Co-funded by AFCN (the Romanian National Cultural Fund Administration).
CO.PA.CU – Community. Heritage. Culture
A project mapping and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of Gorj County. Through research, field diaries and short documentaries, CO.PA.CU recovers local memory (woodcraft, weaving, traditional music) for a curious generation that is little acquainted with this heritage. Co-funded by AFCN.
Be-Brașov
A cultural intervention project on the memory and architecture of Brașov. Young participants attend free courses in documentary film, photography and theatre and in poster design, and their work is shown to the public in an exhibition. Funded by the Municipality of Brașov.
abuz.exe
A documentary series of testimonies in which each person is identified only by their age, so they can speak openly about their experience of abuse.
#eroiUitați (#ForgottenHeroes)
A series of portraits of unjustly forgotten Romanian figures: scientists, artists, architects, writers and statesmen, from Grigore Moisil and Marcel Iancu to Martha Bibescu and Florica Bagdasar.
